I have for you three wonderful short stories by my friend Holly Barbo. They are great reads and I recommend them for christmas time. I have added buy links, the first two can be bought in ebook. The third is only in the trilogy paperback at this time.
Summer in Scotland, and Mari is working on an archaeological dig of a Viking burial ship during Beltane, a time of the year when the veil shrouding the spirit world thins.
What could possibly go wrong?
A Beltane Gift is a contemporary story with historical elements and a wee bit of the paranormal. It won first prize in the PGP Short Story Competition in August 2015. It is also available as part of the anthologies Change of Tides and Tendrils.
This short story has planted roots in Holly’s imagination. It’s possible it will be continued in other books.
A Quick Read book is a short story available as a single small book. In both ebook and paper format, it is a perfect small gift or for escaping to another place and reality when you only have a tiny block of spare time.
Mari is asked to investigate a bog body and accompanying items. Her crew is off for the holidays when Mari is contacted by an acquaintance in the world of science to do a preliminary study. She meets with the man after agreeing to the proposal. Intrigued by the finds, she wants to know more. Out in the camper something stirs up Quinna’s anger which Mari discovers when she returns to the motor home with the items in hand. What has the large cat up in arms? Someone is far more interested in the archeological treasures than they should be. Two security guards are to help keep Mari and the treasure safe. At home, she begins delving into the enigma which dropped into her lap. In her private barn, Mari works to reveal the secrets of the beautiful little bell. A winter snow storm pins both Mari and Quinna down in what should be her private sanctuary. Are they under siege? Will the treasure be lost to those seeking to steal it? Mari will need to use her wits and Quinna her teeth to keep safe as snow piles up and closes Scotland’s country roads.
