Halloween Promotion – Death Walks Through By Lisa Williamson

Today’s promotion is for Death Walks Through by my friend Lisa Williamson.  A great collection of short stories.

Death Walks Through

Description1

Every culture has some type of figure of Death. The Grim Reaper who collects souls as they lie dying. For some he is the cruel face of an end come too soon, for others a gentle healer of life lived too long.

But there is another face to this spectral figure. Death walks through the world, helping those souls that linger between this world and the next, those trapped by circumstance, wish, desire or loss.

So many souls linger needing but a gentle voice and hand to help them move past the final moments of their lives.

This collection contains 15 tales of beings who either know not that they are dead or just how to move on.

This book collects together 14 previous published short stories and includes one totally new story.

EXP from Fear of the Scarecrow

Tommy pulled himself out of his nightmare thoughts and looked up at the scarecrow again. He took another bitter shot of cheap liquor, grimaced, and then put the bottle away. He pulled out the scrap of paper with the old witches incantations scribbled on it, and then he took out his wife’s wedding ring. He placed the gold band on the ring finger of the scarecrow, slipping it over the burlap flesh that seemed too life like for something so inanimate. It fit perfectly. He looked down at the paper, and then up to the moon. He read these words out loud.

“BY THE LIGHT OF THE FULL MOON!”

“AVENGE ME!”

Tommy looked from the moon to the scarecrow who was now alive. Its eyes burned an eerie green color, and its cut out mouth was now filled with razor sharp teeth and plump red lips. The scarecrow broke the bonds that held its wrists and ankles in place, and floated out towards Tommy, who, of course, took a few steps back, stopping when his butt reached the green corn stalks.

Halloween Promotion – All Hallows Eve

Today’s Halloween Promotion is for All Hallows Eve by a group of talented writers.

All Hallows Eve

Description1

“All Hallows’ Eve” – hear the whispering voices … began as a Halloween flash fiction writing contest on Facebook, sponsored by Sharon Van Orman.

Writer ‘friends’ joined in and produced the harrowing, spine-chilling short stories found in this collection.

The contest ran for the month of October and each week’s twenty-five entries were voted on with comments; the story with the most comments won.

The winning writers of the first four weeks competitions then competed for an ‘author’s dream’ prize package of free ebooks, paperbacks, hardcovers, gift cards and more.

But everyone agreed all the stories were excellent…

The Facebook thread exploded. Comments and new ‘friends’ were acquired … all with the same goal … writing!

This is not one person’s achievement, but a collective of people from around the block and around the world.

~*~

“Hal L. O’ween” is the pen-name of a group of writers from around the world that have joined together to ‘scare your pants off!’

Halloween Promotion – Darkness Calls by Kirsten Campbell

I am starting off the Halloween month with a collection of short stories & verse, Darkness Calls by author Kirsten Campbell.

Kristen Campbell 2015 Darkness Calls book cover

Description1

Ghosts, ghouls, angels, demons and UFO’s (unidentified flying objects). What do these five things have in common? These are the things that are a reality to some and a fantasy to others; they create panic or elation and there are thousands of stories of each floating around in the cosmos.

Darkness Calls is a different kind of short fiction book because there is an element of surprise in the book! There’s a question that must be answered by the reader at the end of the book; which two stories are true? Yes, two of the stories are true, cross my heart and hope to fry! I have had many strange experiences in my life and lucky me, I have eye witnesses that were there when said experiences happened. I have several more stories to write, some of which are true and some-not so true, but they are interesting. So, it’s up to you, the reader, to guess which stories are true.

Once you have finished reading all the stories, go to kirstencampbellbooks.com and send an email to me with the subject line, Darkness Calls True Stories. In the body of the email, write in bold letters the question, “Which stories are true?” Please type your thoughts under the questions and let me know which stories you believe are true and then send the email to me. I will answer you and tell you whether you guessed correctly. If you get them right, you get book swag!

I’m willing to bet that most people won’t guess the correct stories. They won’t believe that any of them could be true; but two of them are. I wrote every detail down for your entertainment and enlightenment. Enjoy Darkness Calls. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future…

New Release – Tendrils by Holly Barbo

Today I have a New Release for you called Tendrils, a collection of stories by my friend Holly Barbo.  I have read one of the stories and loved it and will definitely be reading the rest soon.   Holly has also given us an excerpt from one of the stories called – A Crystal Snowflake.

Tendrils

HOLLY image of Tendrils blurb

An excerpt from – A Crystal Snowflake:

Orion gave a quick scan of the room. He needed to make sure he had everything important. His backpack was stuffed and the computer case held so much that there were edges of paper sticking out of it in a haphazard manner. The slender young man slung the strap of the computer bag over his shoulder, grabbed the backpack and headed for the front door. His hand paused as he reached for the knob and he looked out the window.

It was dark and he could see the snow falling through the street lights. There didn’t seem to be anyone about, so he slipped from the house and walked casually to his trusty old Chevy, his breath coming out in rapid visible puffs. The nonchalance was an act. He wanted anyone watching to assume he was going to M.I.T. to get in some late night work. He scanned the shadows, hoping that no one was there. He threw his backpack on the passenger seat then wedged the computer case between it and the seat back. He wanted both within easy reach. Once buckled in, he allowed his nervousness to slip out and thoroughly checked the view from his mirrors.

He eased onto the street and when there was no sign of his tires slipping, increased his speed. Orion reached into the pocket of the backpack for the pre-paid phone that he’d picked up when he determined his cell had been tapped. At the stop sign, he punched in a number. The snow flurries were increasing and he switched on the wipers. Orion waited for his friend to pick up.

He smiled when he heard her voice and responded by saying, “I’m on my way and no one is following me. Just in case, I sent instructions to our safe place. Don’t worry about retrieving the envelope unless I don’t get there by morning. Okay. Gotta go. I’ll be at your door for breakfast with your favorite croissants. Have the coffee brewed.”

Orion laughed at the response. “Okay. I need to concentrate on driving in this stuff. See you soon, Chayse. Bye.”

Beyond the stop sign, the road sloped to a picturesque country bridge, one of many that dotted the New England states. He had to admit it was beautiful in the snowfall but with the driving conditions worsening, he focused on how the car responded to his small adjustments in steering. In the weak light, he didn’t notice the watcher standing in the shelter of some trees on the far side of the road. The muffled figure took a box out of his pocket, pointed it at the car and pushed a button. The loud sibilant schwuff of the slush hitting the car’s undercarriage drowned out the pop.

Without any warning, Orion’s power steering quit. Working to compensate on the slick road, he fought to correct the fish-tailing motion of the car. “Shit!” He tapped the brakes and was horrified as his foot went all the way to the floor.

Fighting the wheel and the momentum of the old Chevy on the slippery surface became his entire focus…and he was losing. He tried gearing down and applying the emergency brake, but the car went into a spin and he caught a glimpse of the bridge railing coming up too fast. “Shit!” The car broke through the wooden barrier and sailed into the darkness over the side.
